Q. What is your current role at Penumbra?

As an EH&S Specialist II, I help support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace across Penumbra’s operations. My work includes ergonomic evaluations, environmental compliance, incident investigations, industrial hygiene assessments, and employee training. I enjoy being able to work with different teams across the organization and help find practical solutions to workplace challenges.

Q. What aspects of your job do you enjoy most?

What I enjoy most is that no two days are exactly the same. One day I might be helping evaluate a workstation, and the next I could be supporting an environmental project or investigating a workplace concern. The variety keeps the job interesting and gives me the opportunity to continually learn about different parts of the business.

Q. What drew you to Penumbra?

I joined Penumbra in 2021 as a Production Builder. At the time, I was looking for an opportunity to work for a company that was growing and making products that truly help people. What kept me here was the opportunity to learn, take on new challenges, and eventually transition into EH&S, where I found a career that combines my interest in safety, operations, and helping others.

Q. What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?

The most important lesson I’ve learned is that listening is often more valuable than immediately trying to solve a problem. The people closest to the work usually have insights that can’t be found in a procedure or report. Taking the time to understand their perspective often leads to better outcomes.

Q. What is your personal philosophy?

I try to leave things a little better than I found them. Whether it’s a process, a workplace concern, or a relationship, small improvements can have a lasting impact over time. I also believe that treating people with respect and keeping an open mind goes a long way.

Q. Before working at Penumbra, describe the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

One of the most interesting jobs I’ve had was working as a sushi chef. I enjoyed learning how to break down and prepare different types of fish and developing the skills that went into creating quality sushi. My favorite part was creating my own rolls and experimenting with different flavor combinations. It was a rewarding experience that combined precision, creativity, and, of course, good food.

Q. What professional development work have you pursued recently? How has it helped you do your work?

Recently, I’ve focused on expanding my knowledge in industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, and workplace safety. I’m also working toward earning my Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification. Continuing to develop these skills helps me provide better support to employees and make more informed recommendations.
