Q. What is your current role at Penumbra?
As a Senior Recruiter at Penumbra, I am responsible for attracting and hiring top-tier talent for our production team, customer service, and other departments as needed for both our Roseville and Alameda campuses. I collaborate closely with hiring managers to understand their unique business needs and work in conjunction with HR and other interdisciplinary teams to ensure a streamlined and compliant hiring experience and process. This involves conducting phone screens, coordinating in-person and virtual interviews, writing and extending offers to prospective hires, and ensuring that all necessary documents are in order. Furthermore, I lead and organize job fairs at our Roseville campus, ensuring a seamless process and creating a positive candidate experience. I’m committed to providing a white-glove experience for candidates, colleges, and hiring managers!
Q. If you did not pursue your current career, what do you see yourself doing professionally?
If I had not pursued my current career, I see myself working as an equestrian. The idea of spending time with these majestic animals, caring for them, and building a connection with them brings me a sense of tranquility and fulfillment. Horses have always held a special place in my heart, and being able to work with them every day would be a dream come true. Their strength, grace, and beauty never fail to captivate me.
Q. Describe a travel adventure that you’ll never forget.
For my 21st birthday, my partner and I decided to take a trip to Jamaica to celebrate. It was definitely an unforgettable trip not only because it was my first trip ever, it also did not go as planned. We happened to visit during hurricane season, which resulted in the road to our resort being closed due to a mudslide, and we ended up staying at a different small hotel for the first day of our trip. Due to the road conditions, we were transferred to a sister resort for the remainder of our vacation. To my surprise, the resort turned out to be an adult-only resort, which was totally unexpected. Due to the nature of the resort and the continuous rain, I found myself spending most of my time cooped up in my room and was unable to do any activities or explore the island.
Q. What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
- The importance of maintaining a student mentality throughout my career. It is crucial to acknowledge that there will always be individuals who possess more knowledge and expertise in certain areas than we do. Embracing this mentality allows me to remain humble, open-minded, and receptive to new ideas and perspectives. In a rapidly evolving world, being willing to learn, adapt, and grow is key to staying relevant and competitive in the ever-changing professional landscape.
- The significance of constructive feedback in driving personal growth and success. Constructive criticism, although sometimes challenging to receive, is an invaluable tool for self-improvement. By soliciting feedback from my mentors, colleagues, and supervisors, I gain insights into my strengths and areas for development. This feedback loop enables me to make necessary adjustments, refine my skills, and progress in my career with a purpose and intention.
- Resilience and adaptability are essential qualities for navigating the complexities of today’s work environment. As industries and technologies continue to evolve, the ability to embrace change and proactively respond to new challenges is paramount. Cultivating a mindset that welcomes change, innovation, and growth fosters agility and long-term success in one’s professional endeavors.
Q. What is your personal philosophy?
My personal philosophy is to treat others as you would like to be treated. After all, everyone you’ve come in contact with is fighting a hard battle that we’re unaware of, and a simple word or gesture has the power to either make their day or ruin their day. It’s important to be kind, empathetic, and considerate in all interactions. As we never know the struggles someone may be facing behind the facade they present to the world. By practicing compassion and understanding, we can create a more positive and supportive environment for those around us. I strive to uplift and encourage those around me by spreading kindness wherever I go. Our words and actions have the power to make a significant impact on someone’s day!
Q. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I coached my son’s football team for three years. Coaching was such a wonderful experience that taught me to be more patient with kids as well as with parents; also, I got a lot of bruises from holding the tackling bags. I trained in Muay Thai for 7 years, which led me to compete in two matches. Muay Thai is a martial art originated from Thailand, often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs.”
