Lily Lim | Sr Territory Manager | Joined Penumbra in 2021
Q. What is your current role at Penumbra?
As senior territory manager, I develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with existing hospitals and customers. I develop new accounts and increase account penetration with new and existing products, while also developing new users of our products, converting them to Penumbra customers. I work closely with the distributor and agent to ensure sufficient product supply to hospitals.
Q. What drew you to Penumbra?
I came to work here due to the APAC general manager at the time, someone I had worked with many years earlier. She gave me the opportunity to work as a direct team member in Malaysia. I’m grateful to her because, thanks to her, I got the chance to work with a great company like Penumbra.
Q. What aspects of your job do you enjoy most?
I get to learn from people from all walks of life, each with unique experience and wisdom. That diversity keeps me sharp, humble, and constantly evolving. Sometimes, even helping someone connect dots–whether it’s breaking down a complex idea, offering a fresh perspective, or guiding them to their own insights–is incredibly rewarding. Those light bulb flashes remind me why I do what I do.
Q. Describe a travel adventure that you’ll never forget.
When I was in Queenstown for a company kick-off meeting many years back, I had the chance to try some interesting activity that is not available in my country. So, I tried skydiving. It was a once-in-my-lifetime experience that left a permanent mark in my memory. I embraced the thrill with open arms, the dramatic alpine scenery, the rush of the freefall, and that surreal moment of floating above one of the most stunning landscapes on Earth…
Q. What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
- You must be passionate and enthusiastic with what you do and who you’re dealing with. Being curious opens doors, ask questions constantly, challenge assumptions, and stay open to learning.
- Work for the right company and have great innovative products that you can provide to healthcare industries.
- People matter more than roles. To me who you know is very important, not just what you know. With trust, shared values, and mutual growth, everything flows with more ease.
- Supportive Leadership: Having good bosses isn’t just luck–it’s transformative. They shape your confidence, guide your growth, and often become life-long mentors.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working across teams exposes you to new perspectives and skills. It’s where innovation often happens.
- Diverse Connections: Friends and colleagues from all walks of life bring richness to my career. They help me grow not just professionally, but personally.
Q. What is your personal philosophy?
Life is short and unpredictable, so enjoy it to the fullest. Live boldly, love deeply, be grateful to every moment you have, and leave nothing unsaid.
