Programmed exclusively for acute ischemic stroke, Penumbra CAVT^™ (Computer Assisted Vacuum Thrombectomy) platform, THUNDERBOLT^™, is the first technology to introduce Modulated Aspiration to stroke thrombectomy, prioritising rapid and complete clot ingestion.

Thunderbolt is designed to:

1. Detect: THUNDERBOLT leverages pressure differentials and flow-based algorithms designed for clot detection at the catheter tip
2. Fatigue: Modulated Aspiration is designed to fatigue the clot up to 12 times per second^a
3. Ingest: Designed for complete clot ingestion at the site of the occlusion

Penumbra’s RED Reperfusion Catheters are intended for use in the revascularisation of patients with acute ischemic stroke. Each case is unique, and the RED portfolio of catheters provides a full range of diameters optimised for various vessel segments.

THUNDERBOLT comes pre-packaged with either a RED 62, RED 68, RED 72 SILVER LABEL or RED 72 SILVER LABEL with SENDit Technology, and is recommended to be used in combination with BMX^™81 Access System (compatible with RED 62) or BMX96^™ Access System (compatible with RED 62, RED 68, RED 72 SILVER LABEL, and RED 72 SILVER LABEL with SENDit Technology).
