Employee Spotlight: Meet Stella Mai
Customer Service Supervisor
Q: What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
A couple of things. First, I enjoy working with my team. I also enjoy knowing that no matter what your job is at Penumbra—even if you process an order or take a call—you are always part of improving and saving lives.
Q: What do you do at our company?
I’m the Customer Service Supervisor for the European Office.
Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a marine biologist as I´m fascinated by the life in the oceans and water. Or a lifeguard.
Q: What is one of your most memorable moments as a Penumbra employee?
There are a couple of moments, but one was observing a case for which I hand delivered the products to the hospital. It was memorable because we in the office usually do not have that much personal interaction directly on site with hospitals and doctors. We primarily interact by phone or email. It was great to see the product in “action” and see that the patient was going to be fine after the procedure.
Q: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? What is the number one challenge you face in your role?
I enjoy interacting with customers and finding solutions to problems to make things easier for them. The fast growth and changes are a big challenge to ensure the quality of our service remains steady.
Q: Where’s the best place you’ve traveled to, and why?
I’ve been to some wonderful places in Europe and around the world. The two most breathtaking places were Venice, Italy, and outside Abu Dhabi at a resort in the middle of the desert. It was a dream of Arabian nights. I had never seen anything like it before. It was just stunning. Peaceful and beautiful, it felt like being in a movie.
Q: How do you define success?
When you put in the time, heart, and effort into something that pays off and you can see and enjoy a result that you are proud of. Knowing that what you are doing is helping you and others lead a better, happier, healthier life.
Q: Words to live by — What are yours?
I believe in karma and that we should treat each other with respect and be kind to one another. You never know what effect you can have on someone who is having a bad day by just being nice and kind. We never know what our counterpart is going through. Enjoy every day, have a good laugh, and enjoy life!
